Gijón P2 – SF Recap & Final Preview

Fantasy Scores, Three-Set Drama & Finals Preview

Semifinal day in Gijón delivered everything we wanted – three-set comebacks, a tiebreak thriller, and the end of the tournament's greatest Cinderella story. Sanz/Nieto's incredible run is over after Galán/Chingotto came back from a set down. Tapia/Coello survived a first-set tiebreak scare from Yanguas/Stupaczuk. On the women's side, Triay/Brea dominated Jensen/Icardo, and Ustero/Sánchez needed three epic sets to get past Josemaría/González. The finals are set – and they're mouth-watering.

📊 Men's SF – Top Fantasy Scorers

With two competitive matches and a tiebreak, the SF round generated solid fantasy numbers across the board. The top scorers came from the three-set match – as expected.

# Player FP
1🇪🇸 Alejandro Galán28.1
2🇦🇷 Federico Chingotto26.5
3🇦🇷 Agustín Tapia25.1
4🇪🇸 Arturo Coello23.8
5🇪🇸 Miguel Yanguas18.7
🇪🇸 Alejandro Galán SF MVP

28.1 FP to top the men's SF leaderboard. Galán led the comeback against Sanz/Nieto after losing the first set 4-6. Paired with Chingotto (26.5 FP, 2nd place), this duo combined for 54.6 FP in a gruelling three-set match. They lost a set for the first time this tournament but showed elite composure to recover and win 6-3 6-4 in the final two sets. The Riyadh P1 finalists are back in another final.

🇦🇷 Tapia & 🇪🇸 Coello Battle-Tested

Tapia (25.1 FP) and Coello (23.8 FP) combined for 48.9 FP in a match that was much tighter than the scoreline suggests. The first-set tiebreak at 7-6(5) could have gone either way – Yanguas/Stupaczuk had their chances at 5-5. But the world #1 pair's big-point mentality made the difference. After the QF demolition of Di Nenno/González, this was a proper test – and they passed it.

💥 Key Storylines – Men's SF

🔻 Sanz/Nieto's Cinderella run ends. What a tournament. From unseeded outsiders to SF contenders – beating Chozas/Libaak, Lebrón/Augsburger, and taking a set off Galán/Chingotto. Sanz (33.1 FP in QF, QF top scorer) was one of the best fantasy picks of the entire tournament. They won the first set 6-4 and had Galán/Chingotto on the ropes, but couldn't sustain it over three sets. A star-making tournament for both players.

⚠️ Yanguas/Stupaczuk had a tiebreak to grab the first set. At 6-6 in the first set, the scoreline was 5-5 in the tiebreak before Tapia/Coello closed it out 7-5. That's as close as anyone has come to taking a set off the world #1 pair since the R16 (when Lijó/Arce pushed them to three). Yanguas (18.7 FP) was the 5th highest scorer – solid numbers in defeat.

✅ Galán/Chingotto show championship DNA. Losing the first set to a fired-up Sanz/Nieto would have broken most pairs. Instead, Galán/Chingotto responded with 6-3 6-4. They've now come through the hardest half of the draw (Bergamini/Garrido, then Sanz/Nieto three-setter) and will be battle-hardened for the final.

🏆 The final is set: Tapia/Coello vs Galán/Chingotto. The world #1 pair against the Riyadh P1 finalists. Tapia/Coello have been tested (R16 three-setter, SF tiebreak) but keep winning. Galán/Chingotto have shown they can dig deep in adversity. This is the final everyone wanted.

🏆 Women's Semifinals – Results

Two very different matches. Triay/Brea bounced back from their QF marathon with a dominant 2-0 demolition of Jensen/Icardo, while Ustero/Sánchez needed a dramatic three-set battle to edge past Josemaría/González.

📊 Women's SF – Top Fantasy Scorers

The women's SF produced the highest single-player fantasy score of the entire semifinal day – and it wasn't even close.

# Player FP
1🇪🇸 Andrea Ustero46.1
2🇪🇸 Ariana Sánchez36.4
3🇪🇸 Gemma Triay34.6
4🇦🇷 Delfina Brea34.6
5🇪🇸 Beatriz González12.9
🇪🇸 Andrea Ustero Tournament MVP

46.1 FP – the highest single-player score of the entire SF day, men and women combined. And it's not even close: Ustero's 46.1 FP is nearly double the men's top score (Galán, 28.1 FP). She delivered in a three-set war against Josemaría/González (6-2 3-6 6-4, 2h 36min), showing she can produce elite fantasy numbers under maximum pressure. Paired with Sánchez (36.4 FP, 2nd place), the duo combined for a staggering 82.5 FP. The Riyadh P1 champions look ready to defend their crown.

🇪🇸 Triay & 🇦🇷 Brea Dominant

After the 2h 47min QF marathon against Calvo/Ortega, Triay/Brea looked refreshed and sharp with a 6-2 6-2 win over Jensen/Icardo. Triay (34.6 FP) and Brea (34.6 FP) – identical scores – combined for 69.2 FP in what felt like total control. They posted these numbers despite the match being a comfortable 2-0, which makes the output even more impressive. Jensen/Icardo, the QF's top-scoring pair, were completely neutralised.

💥 Key Storylines – Women's SF

🔥 Ustero posts 46.1 FP – the day's highest score by a mile. For context, this is higher than Calvo Santamaría's 42.9 FP in the R16 which was the previous tournament-best single-round score. Ustero has been building through each round (29.8 FP in QF → 46.1 FP in SF) and is peaking at exactly the right moment heading into the final.

⚠️ Josemaría/González pushed Ustero/Sánchez to three sets. After being broken 6-2 in the first set, Josemaría/González hit back with 6-3 in the second. The third set was tight at 6-4. Their tournament ends here, but Bea González (12.9 FP) had an uncharacteristically quiet fantasy day after posting 29.8 FP in the QF.

✅ Triay/Brea bounce back in style. After the exhausting QF three-setter, many expected fatigue to be a factor. Instead, Triay/Brea looked sharper than ever. A 6-2 6-2 scoreline against the QF's highest-scoring pair is a statement. Both players posted identical 34.6 FP – clinical, balanced, and ominous heading into the final.

🔻 Jensen/Icardo's run ends. The QF top-scoring pair (68.9 combined FP) were completely shut down in the SF. Neither player appears in the SF Top 5. Triay/Brea's experience and quality proved too much at this stage.

Women dominate the fantasy charts – yet again: Ustero's 46.1 FP dwarfs every men's SF score. The top 4 fantasy scorers on SF day are ALL women. The gender gap in fantasy scoring has been consistent throughout the entire Gijón tournament. If you're not prioritising your women's lineup, you're leaving points on the table.

🔮 Final Preview – Men

🇦🇷 Tapia / 🇪🇸 Coello vs 🇪🇸 Galán / 🇦🇷 Chingotto The Final

The world #1 pair vs the Riyadh P1 finalists. Both pairs have been tested through the knockout rounds and both know how to win under pressure.

Tapia/Coello's path: R16 three-setter (vs Lijó/Arce), QF demolition (6-3 6-1 vs Di Nenno/González), SF tiebreak (7-6(5) 6-4 vs Yanguas/Stupaczuk). Combined SF FP: 48.9. They haven't lost a match at this tournament, but they've been pushed.

Galán/Chingotto's path: R16 2-0, QF 2-0 (6-2 6-1), SF three-set comeback (4-6 6-3 6-4 vs Sanz/Nieto). Combined SF FP: 54.6. They showed vulnerability by losing a set but responded with championship composure.

This final has massive fantasy implications. Galán/Chingotto generated more combined SF FP (54.6 vs 48.9) and played the longer, tougher match. If the final goes to three sets – a real possibility given both pairs' recent form – every player on the court could crack 30+ FP. Galán (28.1 FP in SF) and Chingotto (26.5 FP) are the form pair in terms of recent scoring, but Tapia (25.1 FP) and Coello (23.8 FP) are the world's best for a reason. Expect fireworks.

🔮 Final Preview – Women

🇪🇸 Triay / 🇦🇷 Brea vs 🇪🇸 Ustero / 🇪🇸 Sánchez The Final

This is the dream final. The SF's two highest-scoring pairs, the two best teams at the tournament, going head-to-head for the title.

Triay/Brea's path: QF three-set comeback (3-6 6-4 6-4 vs Calvo/Ortega, 2h 47min), SF domination (6-2 6-2 vs Jensen/Icardo). Combined SF FP: 69.2. They bounced back from adversity and look like they're in peak form at the perfect time.

Ustero/Sánchez's path: QF 2-0 (vs Guinart/Virseda), SF three-set thriller (6-2 3-6 6-4 vs Josemaría/González, 2h 36min). Combined SF FP: 82.5. Ustero posted 46.1 FP – the single highest score of the entire SF day. They came through the tougher SF match and proved they can handle pressure.

The fantasy ceiling here is enormous. Ustero/Sánchez (82.5 combined SF FP) outscored Triay/Brea (69.2) in the SF, but Triay/Brea had the more dominant result. If this final goes to three sets, every player could exceed 40 FP. Ustero is the hottest fantasy player at the tournament right now (29.8 QF → 46.1 SF), while Triay and Brea were perfectly balanced at 34.6 each. This is a must-stack match for your fantasy lineup. No matter who wins, the points will flow.

📝 Fantasy Strategy for Finals

1. Ustero is the #1 fantasy pick for the final. 46.1 FP in the SF. Trending upward every round. She's facing Triay/Brea in what should be an elite-level final – the quality of the opponent will keep the rallies long and the FP high regardless of the result.

2. Stack the women's final over the men's. The top 4 SF fantasy scorers are all women. Ustero/Sánchez combined for 82.5 FP and Triay/Brea for 69.2 FP. The men's top pair (Galán/Chingotto) managed 54.6 FP. The women's final will almost certainly generate more fantasy points.

3. Galán/Chingotto are the men's value play. They generated more combined SF FP than Tapia/Coello (54.6 vs 48.9) and showed they can come back from a set down. In a competitive final, they'll be high-value. Galán (28.1 FP) was the men's SF top scorer.

4. Don't sleep on Triay/Brea's recovery ability. They played a 2h 47min three-setter in the QF and then demolished Jensen/Icardo 6-2 6-2 the next day. This pair handles back-to-back pressure better than anyone. Both posted identical 34.6 FP – consistency is their superpower.

5. A three-set final = fantasy jackpot. If either final goes to three sets, expect the highest individual FP scores of the entire tournament. The key matchups (Tapia vs Galán, Ustero vs Triay) will produce extended, high-quality rallies. Pray for three sets.
